Oke, so let me speed you up, she is the head designer of Lemaire (the French quiet luxury brand). So if you like The Row, you are a New Yorker and you go to bed on time. If you like Lemaire you are Parisian and you read late at night. Morning-evening-person-thing. I am definitely evening.
Sarah-Linh Tran is the embodiment of Lemaire’s vibe. I always like it when a designer lives or is the aesthetic, it shows how much love they have for their work.
In the fashion scene you often read about a new shuffle of head designers. I get this, new vibe, new creative outlet. But somehow the designers that stick to one narrative and vibe are just pretty iconic. Like Yohji Yamamoto, Coco Chanel.
If I would describe the aesthetic, poetic-military (which I think shows the Vietnamese roots) with a bit of French ‘Je ne sais quoi’. Instead of Japonism (Japanese art influenced the French in the 19th century) I would like to introduce Vietnamism.
In Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, you sense the connection people have with fashion. They have an Iconic national dress Áo dài (more on that later, as it needs its own post). If you go to HCMC you will feel this Parisian vibe but then Vietnamese.
